Starting with a unique educational back-ground, the idea, CVM Services, rises out of a small town in the Island of Jamaica. I attended a small teachers college in Jamaica, ‘Bethlehem Teachers’ College’, one of the oldest teachers college in Jamaica- built and started in the year 1840. My undergraduate degree I acquired at Mary Grove College. (BSW): Then moved on to my graduate degree from Eastern Michigan University. My vision to help individuals to make it a purpose in life to enhance their emotional well-being has always been my goal in life. At CVM Services, the overall approach to counseling is motivated by both an intellectual curiosity about the client’s problem and a compassionate desire to help each individual to acquire the specific skills and knowledge needed to build and use the tools they need for optimal normal functioning. I particularly look for knowledge and skills in specific/individualized areas. Dr. Astorga-Switzer has been providing psychiatric care to children and their families since 1983. She specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry, emphasizing comprehensive psychiatric services and the use of evidence based treatment practices. She provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and training and consultation to clinical staff at The Children’s Center. Dr. Astorga-Switzer believes in an integrated health care approach when addressing the needs of children, adolescents and their families who are affected by behavioral and emotional disorders. She has special interests in the field of attention deficit disorders, developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. Cynthia Hill-Jackson is a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) with over 20 years’ experience working with persons diagnosed with severe and pervasive mental illness, substance use disorders and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Gwendolyn was recruited to join our staff more than 8 years ago. She brings a wealth of experience to our staff. She is a Professor of Religious Studies, an SPE fellow, and a sought after consultant and therapist. Gwendolyn enjoys working with couples and familes, and has a deep sensitivity and skill working with hurts surrounding loss, domestic violence and sexual abuse. Gwendolyn is the Founding Pastor of Full Gospel Christian Church. As a lecturer and facilitator she presents workshops on Divorce Recovery, Life Skills, Healthy Self-Esteem and Mentoring for Young Adults.
